Should College Be A Professional Sports Athlete - 1478 Words

College can be perceived in two different ways: for most, the word inflicts fear into high school students around the nation; on the other hand, there are individuals that simply want to get away from home to party and live on their own. There is no sympathy for these students and it is just a waste of his or her parent’s hard-earned money and trust. College is essential for a secure future and this has let colleges raise the tuition to astronomical heights. Inflation, causing the cost of living to increase, combined with rising tuition has created major financial problems within families across America. Colleges are damaging the future of America and the government should do more to regulate the larceny conducted by the major schools.†¦show more content†¦These are jobs that most people want to be if they could. So what is stopping them from going to school to fill the need for these high paying jobs? Money. There is no better way to explain the increase in the cost of tuition other than raw numbers and data. According to the College Board, â€Å"The average published tuition and fee price for students enrolled full time at public nonprofit four-year colleges and universities increased by $1,100 (3.7%) between 2013-14 and 2014-15.† This source also states that the average cost of tuition across the country was 8,893 dollars last year. This does not include room and board. A decent place to stay, food and books also add on quickly to the expenses. All and all, according to the College Board, â€Å"The total price of college rose 6% just last year.† Although six percent does not seem like a lot at first glance, over the time of a 4-year degree this could equate to over 10,000 dollars. This is the most common reason that high school students don’t attend a higher education, according to a study by Hartwick College. Another alternative and negative decision comes in the form of student loans. Some families refuse to fund their child’s education after high school. Almost all of these students are forced to take out student loans that leave them downing in debt in the years following graduation.
